Real Steel is an action/adventure and sci-fi/fantasy film that was released in 2011. It tells the story of an ex boxer – Charlie (Hugh Jackman) who becomes self absorbed in a life of fighting robots.
Caught up in a whirlwind of hunger (to win) and greed (to make lots of money) he loses himself and runs up a debt to a crook and the girl, Bailey that means everything to him.
His world is turned upside down when he discovers that the son – Max, he left years ago, recently lost his mother and now he will have to care for him for a whole summer. This heart warming story deals with loss, love, family and friendship along the way.
After a near death experience at a scrap yard, the father and son duo grow closer, and Max builds an unlikely friendship with a scrap robot – Atom that he claims, ‘saved his life’.Charlie helps him to build up his robot to fight.
Atom becomes a strong competitor, as well as standing out from the norm with his abilities to box, shadow others moves, hear commands and dance. Max gains a new best friend in Atom and a father, who has lots of time to make up for.
After winning a league battle, Max challenges the world champion robot, Zeus to a fight – this is something he won’t be able to back down to. As relationships strengthen both Charlie and Max look to actually stand a chance of winning.
Zeus is the ultimate contender, with all the strength and abilities that Atom doesn’t bear – will he annihilate his tiny contender or have his butt kicked to world number one by his scrap yard foe?
Well that’s for you to see for yourselves, but I would definitely recommend this film for those who like a wholesome film, with a heart-felt storyline.
