Step aside Avril, there’s a new rock chick in town and she’s only 16 years old!
This badass teen sensation, projects attitude and kick ass lyrics but without any cockiness.
Known best as Diamante, this fiesty femme has bagged herself the 2012 Indie Music Channel Award titles for Best Young Rock Artist, Best Rock Recording, Best Music Video with “Impossible” and Teen Artist of the Year.
Her edgy voice and her fresh look make her a star to look out for. Often compared to Alanis Morisette, Diamante comes from the East Coast of America and has exploded onto the Hollywood music scene.
We caught up with Diamante to see what her plans are for world domination…
To people who don’t know who you are, how would you describe yourself?
I’m just a 16-year-old chick with a passion for rock music and a love for the stage. I’ve been singing my lungs out my whole life and the first pieces of literature I ever wrote were songs.
What other musician would you compare yourself to? We think you’re a quirkier Avril Lavigne, do you agree?
Definitely! I’ve always admired Avril’s punk attitude and style, because she really has just stuck to her thing. Hayley William’s music has always been very influential to mine, but I would also relate myself to a modern day version of Pat Benatar and Joan Jett.
What motivated you to get into music?
Music has always been there for me, and I have loved performing ever since I was a little kid. Being up on stage for the first time, I realised that it was where I was always meant to be. I don’t know who I would be now if I hadn’t chosen to get into music.
What’s your favourite thing to do in the whole world?
Besides sing, my favourite thing to do is travel. I’ve always been fascinated by seeing the world and all of its diversity. I also love seeing and living in completely different cultures and places.
What are your plans for the next 5 years?
I definitely plan on making more music and touring. I also plan to go to college to study music and some sort of journalism or creative writing. I hope to take a year off before college though, to go tour and explore Europe.
Do you think you’ll come to the UK? We think you’ll be big here too!
Of course! I have never been to the UK, but it’s always been a dream of mine to go – to be able to play there would be incredible.
We think you’re style is very cool. What fashion tips can you offer to people trying to find their style?
Thanks! It took me a while to develop my style, but my best advice would be to stay true to who you are and have your style represent that person. Also be aware of what your best features are, and accentuate them. I love vintage finds and unique pieces.
We’re looking forward to your new releases. Can you give us a sneeky bit of gossip of what they may be about?
I’m also super stoked! This new stuff is really on the heavier side, but I love it because they don’t hold back at all. All the lyrics are mine and completely define who I am, not only as an artist but also as a person. They also tell about personal experiences I’ve been through, so I hope the people who hear them can really relate and get a better sense of who I am and what I represent.
Can you tell us one thing that people may not know about you?
I know I don’t look it, but I’m actually half Italian, half Mexican. I speak fluent Spanish, and it’s always really funny when people get taken aback once they realize I can speak it.
