I arrived at the Liverpool 02 Academy half an hour before the doors opened to see ‘We are the in Crowd’ and there was a long line of excited fans eager to get in. Everyone in the queue was buzzing about the night ahead as was I. As soon as the doors flew open the line surged forward and everyone was trying to push to the front, so they could get a spot near the stage.
The first act on was Wrexham band ‘Neck Deep’ who are about to embark on a US headline tour. The vocals reminded me of a cross between 90’s punk bands Sum 41 and Blink 182, while the instruments captured the crowd blasting out a new, updated punk sound. The crowd interaction was immense as lead singer ‘Ben Barlow’ leaped between the stage and the barrier.
Newport based band ‘Save Your Breath’ followed, with their modern skater punk sound. They had the room captivated from the very first guitar riff and soon enough the crowd formed a circular mosh pit. Their on-stage personalities and awesome tracks made this band a must see live, if you get the chance.
Then for the headliners! ‘We are the in Crowd’ ran onto the stage and immediately threw themselves into the show starting with ‘The Best Thing’ which the crowd happily sung along to. Without stopping to take a breath they went straight into their new single ‘Manners’ which was only released a day before the show, but it didn’t stop the die-hard fans from singing along.
Lead singer ‘Taylor Jardine’ confessed she had sore throat, but if she hadn’t mentioned it then I would never would have guessed. She carried the show in a professional manner ensuring this would be a night to remember. The band closed the show with their popular single ‘Rumour Mill’ and Taylor jumped onto the barrier and serenaded the crowd.
When the band went off stage and the light came up everyone waited for a while hoping there would be one more song, but when nothing happened they finally accepted it was over. Some people got a few souvenirs from the night in the form of guitar picks, drum sticks and set lists.
This was my first time seeing ‘We are the in Crowd’ live and even though their UK tour isn’t over yet, I can’t wait for them to come back on their next tour with more amazing songs. I would highly recommend seeing them live, they’ll blow you away!
