REVIEW: #RoyalTeaseFreakShow

The word ‘freak’ conjures up scenes from playgrounds in school where those considered to be socially inept were pinned to walls and taunted for being unusual. The Royal Tease Freak Show takes the freakishly abnormal and transforms it into a thing of beauty.

Sadie Sinner

The bold Sadie Sinner hosted the show, dazzling those who had come to join the fun at the Royal Tease with her vocals and razor sharp wit. In the interims of the show she shared her love of the equally powerful Skunk Anansie belting out two of her classics, ‘Secretly’ and ‘Weak’.

The first feature of the show was Preacher, ‘the man who can walk on glass’ amongst other things like; blowing a bubble out of his nose from an inhaled condom as well as knocking nails into his face and reversing the process with a hammer. If you need some home DIY improvements I’m still skeptical as to whether or not this is the guy to call!

Bambi Blue set the stage on fire with her performance next. Tantalising the audience with seductive struts and fire manoeuvres that had the crowd wishing they were the fire or least the lighter fluid. Although none profess to put out a cigarette on their tongue and make it look sexy – Bambi Blue does! Sounds of André 3000 and Beyonce’s take on ‘Back to Black’ blared while the crowd were hypnotised by Bambi’s every shake, turn and burn.

Bambi Blue’s act was hotter than hell.

Sadie called for some audience participation against the ‘Lawnmower of Doom’. Preacher demonstrated that he is a Jack of all trades by balancing the anarchist mower on his face. Class! Three volunteers tussled against the rusty blades armed and dangerous with iceberg lettuce. The aim was to throw the green directly into mower’s blades which seemed like an easy enough task. All three failed miserably, all men at that. And people say it’s girls that can’t throw straight!

Mynxie Monroe upped the mood as well as temperature clad in black and red with thigh high boots. Unzipping her way to bare essentials, wolf whistles and assorted verbal egging on filled the air. Words do her performance little justice. Photos, however, will allow your mind to wander…to summarise, she did make a scene!

The duo of the night comprised of Bambi Blue and her partner in crime Bodecker: a possessed zombie following her lead. Candle wax, lighter fluid and fire all made cameos. Bambi Blue donned suspenders, a corset, leather thong and bra making this segment of the Royal Tease alluring. None would have turned down the opportunity to be set alight by Bambi.

A voodoo-meister performed a ritual with glass skulls and an assortment of bones and fire. Without flinching or wincing he proceeded to pierce his skin repeatedly with feathered ended needles. It must be stressed that all of the acts should not be replicated by non-professionals! As a recommendation to cure the itch for a spontaneous piercing or piercings, head to your nearest body piercer.

The final act was a riveting strip tease by none other than Mynxie Monroe. In a fish tail styled black velour dress she stood still like an empress, apart from a cigarette she smoked whilst holding the gaze of the crowd. It was only a matter of time until the velour number was unzipped.
